Weekly Devotional 7

A simple moment in the kitchen turned into a powerful reminder about distraction, purpose, and God’s call to return.

Some weeks back, my mum asked me to cook an egg just as she was leaving the house. A little while after, I walked to the kitchen to do just that.

I put on the gas, placed the little pot that contained water and the egg on it, then left the kitchen.

Unfortunately, I got carried away with what I was doing on my phone and totally forgot about the egg—until I heard a loud bang from the kitchen.

On getting there, the egg had burst and scattered around the kitchen. The water had dried up, and the pot was burnt all around.

Panicked, I turned off the gas and started picking up the pieces of the eggshells.

While I did this, I wondered to myself how I managed to get so carried away to the extent that I completely forgot about the egg.

When I was done cleaning up, I decided to meditate on it, and I learned something valuable from it.

This is it: my mum represented God by giving me an instruction. Me going to cook the egg represented me carrying out that instruction, and me being distracted by my phone—completely forgetting about the egg—represented me getting so carried away by other things that I neglected what God told me to do in the first place.

I only realized that I was still cooking an egg when I heard it burst.

Just like how we also realize that we are doing something totally different from what we are called to do only when we run into challenges or feel stuck.

Meaning, it is a call to order.

That message you listened to, that post you read, or that contract you worked so hard for but didn’t come through might just be the wake-up call or signal that God is giving you to come back to Him.

To let Him redirect your ways so that you can go back and fulfill the purpose He set for you—the one you drifted away from.

It’s never too late.

Because I cooked another egg, and this time, I monitored it closely, making sure I didn’t get distracted from the task given to me.

No matter how bad it is, or how far you’ve gone, you can always come back home to God. He will still turn the pieces into something brand new and refine you.

But notice that I had to buy another egg to replace the old one.

This shows that sometimes, it might actually cost you something when you decide to mend your ways.

It can cost you relationships, positions, or sometimes even leave a scar.

Just like how Apostle Paul’s eyesight never fully healed.

But remember, it is always worth it in the end.

God bless everyone❤️.
